DuelStat scores two footballers with a single formula, and takes into account who they actually faced.
A season total hides something: 15 goals is 15 whether they came against the bottom three or the top three. Ordinary stat pages put two players side by side without accounting for who they played — which is why they never settle an argument, they just confirm both sides in what they already believed.
The idea here is simple: one formula, the same opponents, the arithmetic in the open. If you disagree, you can point at exactly where.
Every player goes through the same table of weights. No hidden coefficients: all of them, plus a worked example, are on the method page.
This is the heart of it. We find the teams both players faced and line up only those matches. Because the opponent set is identical on both sides, this is not an approximate adjustment — the comparison is opponent-controlled by construction. How much of each season the slice covers is always printed next to the numbers; we never show the figure without its coverage.
Comparing a 24-year-old with a 31-year-old in the same season is unfair to both. The age tab aligns age rather than the calendar: what each produced at 24, next to each other.
“0.35 tackles per 90” tells you nothing on its own; “top 8% of centre-backs” does. And since a keeper has no goals and a striker no saves, percentiles are the only sensible shared scale when the two positions differ.
DS is a weighted sum of countable actions in matches that were actually played. It is not:
Every blind spot is spelled out on the method page. The number does not replace the argument; it gives it common ground.
Standings are not pulled ready-made; they are computed match by match from our own records, so the points in the table and the player scores come from the same set of matches. A finished match never changes, so each one is processed once; new matches are added at regular intervals and the rankings recomputed.
